1980’s make-up tutorial

In this step-by-step tutorial, we flashback to 1980’s make-up when bold, garish colours and big hair were all the rage!

I started off with cleansed, lightly moisturised skin before applying a small amount of NYX Shine Killer Primer and waited a few minutes for it to settle onto my skin before applying foundation and setting powder (optional).

cs 88 paletteOn my eyelids, I applied e.l.f. Shadow Lock Primer and waited a minute or two for it to dry before applying a nude, flesh eyeshadow from lashline to brow, as a base for the coloured shadows. I’m using the Coastal Scents 88 Colour Original palette which doesn’t have any colour names printed on them so I’m unable to tell you exactly which colours I used.

I began the smokey vertical ombre by applying a medium grey colour to the outer third of my eyelid, extending the colour from my lash line to my eyebrow.

Next, I applied a medium purple shade to the inner third of my eyelid, extending the colour from lash line to brow.

Using a lilac colour, I applied this to the middle third of the eye, using it to blend the previously applied grey and purple shades together to create a seamless wash of colour.

I used an angled brush to smudge a little grey eyeshadow under my lower lash line and applied a small amount of shimmery white eyeshadow directly underneath the arch of my eyebrows and blended it well.

My upper eyelid was lined with black pencil eyeliner, although you could use a gel eyeliner or liquid liner. Try to keep the line thin and as close to the lashes as possible. Line the lower lash line by placing the eyeliner in between the eyelashes.

1980I lined my waterline (the area above the lashes on the lower lid) with white pencil eyeliner to open up my eye and make it look bigger. I’ve you have naturally large eyes, you can line the waterline with black to make the eye appear a little smaller.

Finally, I applied a few coats of mascara and filled in my brows.
