Ladybug Garden Decor

These old golf balls have been cleaned and upcycled into cute garden ornaments.

I use the original colour of the golf balls for my ladybugs, so the base colour will vary slightly between bugs, depending on the brand of red, orange or green golf ball that has been used.  The face, eyes, dots and stripes are painted on with black acrylic paint before being coated with two coats of clear varnish.

No two ladybugs are exactly the same, their stripes, spots, and eyes will all vary slightly, and some may have ‘scars’ or blemishes from being used as golf balls.

Use these cute characters to decorate your garden or pot plants. They can be stuck onto the sides or top edges of pot plants with a little Blu-Tack, or simply placed on top of the soil in the pot or in the garden.

Please note that if the bugs get excessively wet (after a few days of continuous rain, or if they sit directly on the soil), the varnish may become a milky-white colour. This is normal and it will revert back to clear as soon as they dry out. If you wish to keep them looking bright and shiny, a fresh coat of clear varnish once a year won’t do them any harm. This is optional. If they are not varnished annually, they may start to lose their shine and have more of a matte look.
